A lot of Victorian homes still run on ducted gas heating or gas wall heaters. Replacing them with an efficient electric reverse-cycle air conditioner is one of the most common upgrades under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
Why this upgrade is supported
A modern reverse-cycle system moves heat rather than burning fuel to make it, so it can deliver far more heat for the energy it uses. You also get cooling in summer from the same system.
What's usually involved
- Assessing your home. We look at your current heater, the rooms you need to heat and cool, and the right size of system.
- Choosing the system. A ducted system is often the natural swap for ducted gas. Split or multi-split systems suit gas wall heaters and room-by-room needs.
- Decommissioning the gas heater. Where the upgrade scenario requires it, the old gas heater is disconnected by a licensed gasfitter. This is part of the quote.
- Installation and paperwork. Licensed installers fit the new system and our accredited provider completes the VEU records, including photos of the install.

Can I keep my gas heater as a backup?
It depends on the scenario. Some upgrades require the old heater to be decommissioned so the energy savings actually happen. If keeping it matters to you, tell us and we'll explain your options.
