Understanding your co-payment

Why every VEU air con upgrade has a minimum customer contribution, and how your quote is worked out.

If you've seen ads for "free" air conditioners under the VEU program, here's the reality: since 1 February 2025, air conditioning upgrades under the program have a minimum customer co-payment. There's always an amount for you to pay.

Why the co-payment exists

The program introduced co-payments, along with a minimum five-year product warranty, to lift the quality of air conditioning upgrades and make sure customers get systems that suit their homes.

How your price is worked out

  • Full price. The product plus installation, itemised on your quote.
  • VEU discount. The value of the VEECs your upgrade creates, passed on by our accredited provider.
  • Your co-payment. Full price minus the discount. This is what you pay, and it can't be less than the program's minimum.

Your quote shows all three numbers in writing before you agree to anything. If someone offers you a VEU air conditioner for nothing, ask them to explain how they're meeting the co-payment rules.

Why quotes differ between homes

The discount depends on the heater being replaced, the system installed, your location and current VEEC prices. Two neighbours can get different numbers, and that's normal.
